The House of the Temple is the headquarters for the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, Southern Jurisdiction. The building houses ceremonial rooms, administrative space as well as library and archive areas. Designed by the well-known architect John Russell Pope, the House of the Temple was Pope's first large monumental commission in Washington. The temple was also one of Pope's best-known and most highly praised works and is an excellent example of American Classical Revival architecture of the early twentieth century.

Hartman-Cox's Architects’ work included the restoration of ceremonial spaces; improved egress and accessibility; creation of new archive and museum spaces; selective structural repair; installation of new HVAC, fire protection, and electrical systems; repair of windows and skylights; and exterior stone repair. An integrated project delivery methodology will be used to renovate the House of the Temple.
