Hartman-Cox improved the museum's exterior appearance, clarified its circulation, renovated 40,800 SF of its exhibition space, and added 3,000 SF for new galleries. The main entrance was shifted back to the original location facing the Hague Canal, and the original arched entrance loggia, which had been bricked shut, was reopened. We balanced the entry elevation with a new wing of galleries and a second tower to the north, matching those to the south, and wrapped the new additions in limestone in the style of the original structure. Finally, we concealed a 1974 brutalist addition with a new library wing.
