Brookland Middle School, designed for 550 students, is home to 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students primarily drawn from the Ward 5 elementary schools. The building is three floors and contains approximately 110,000 GSF.

The school was envisioned by DCPS as a stand-alone neighborhood middle school improved by its connection with Turkey Thicket Park and the ability to share amenities with the park users and the community as a whole. While still concentrating on the traditional core curricula, the school features an enhanced performing and fine arts component as well as an enriched foreign language overlay. These two disciplines are treated as special academies in the school organization.
